NEW SAFE AND SOUND PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

The police department has just announced that a new program has been introduced to the residents of St.Clair and St. Clair County. Our department sent out a press release outlining the new Safe and Sound program directed to adults and children who have a disability that may cause them to wander from their caregiver. The program earmarks individuals with Autism, Alzheimers,dementia, Down Syndrome, or any affliction that may cause an individual to wander from caregivers or not be able to identify themselves if located. Each individual receives a bracelet with identifying information on the reverse side. When located, the finder can obtain the contact information and call for assistance. An application and the department press release is available on this website. Simply click on FORMS and look for the Safe and Sound Press Release and downloadable application. Upon receipt and review of the application, the individual's caregiver will be given an engraved medical alert bracelet with the information necessary for reuniting the wearer with his or her caregiver. POLICE DEPARTMENT ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER

The police department has sent out its third edition of its Electronic Newsletter to over 100+ individuals. The e-mail newsletter,sent out each month, provides the recipient a look at the past month's crime statistics, upcoming department events, crime prevention tips, world events on law enforcement issues, and other information residents can rely upon for help. If you wish to have the electronic newsletter sent to you, please send a request email to scpd@cityofstclair.com. POLICE VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS NOW BEING TAKEN

The police department is currently accepting applications for Police Volunteer to assist the department with special events this summer. Volunteers are not only the 'eyes and ears' of the department but serve an important logistical and operational service to the department. The applicant must be a resident of St. Clair, 21 years of age, have a valid drivers license, free of criminal convictions, good moral character and be able to pass an extensive background check. The applicant must have a strong desire to assist our department in any manner necessary. WANTED INDIVIDUAL

This department is seeking information as to the whereabouts of Kimberly Ettinger-Shultis. Ettinger is wanted for failing to appear in court on an original charge of Drunk Driving and Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle. Ettinger is 5'5", 180, white female, brown hair, blue eyes. This department holds a valid arrest warrant for Michael Thomas Hogsett for Retail Fraud 3rd Degree and Minor in Possession of Alcohol. Hogsett is described as being a white male, 6' 150 lbs., Brown hair and Hazel eyes. Hogsett's last known address is Court Street, Port Huron. Charlotte Marie Goff is being sought by this department for failing to appear in court on an original charge of driving without vehicle insurance and an unregistered vehicle. Goff is described as being a white female, 5" 8, 130 lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes, with a tattoo on her left ankle of feathers. This department holds valid felony warrants for JUSTIN SAMUEL CARDELLA, W/M 3-31-1980, last known address of Tripp Road, St. Clair Twp. CARDELLA is wanted for Stealing/Retaining A Financial Transaction Device without Consent; Possession of a Financial Transaction Device without Owner's Consent; and Illegal Use or Sale of a Financial Transaction Device; Any information leading to his arrest may be forwarded to this department at 810-329-5710. Marino Joseph Boscaglia is wanted for Felony Drunk Driving, Driving While License Suspended 2nd Offense, Possession of Open Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and Habitual Offender 2nd Notice. Boscaglia is described as being 6', 275 lbs, gray hair, W/M, 10-04-1949; *Do not make any effort to apprehend this individual! WANTED INDIVIDUAL - OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

The St. Clair Police Department is seeking information for KELLY LYNN ALLIE, w/f 11/17/1966 5'1, 118 lbs, blonde, hazel, last known address is Elk Street, Port Huron, Michigan. ALLIE is wanted for failing to appear for sentencing on original charge of Driving While License Suspended. Do not make any attempts to apprehend this individual. Stop Signs Placed at Brown and North Sixth Streets

In an effort to maintain even traffic flows, increase pedestrian and school children safety while reducing speeds, two additional stop signs have been added to the intersection of Brown Street and Sixth Street. These signs will remain in place for a temporary 90 days to see if the stop signs are effective. After 90 days, the police department must seek final approval from the city council to make the sign placement permanent.


Department Shows Off New Sesquicentennial Arm Patch

To celebrate the 150th birthday of St. Clair's incorporation as a city, the police department's members are wearing a new patch on their uniforms for the year long event. The patch has many of its details from the last arm patch but now has a detailed image of the old City Hall in the center memorializing the city's past. All department members will be wearing the newly issued Sesquicentennial patch within the next month. It is our way of saying "Happy 150th Birthday St. Clair!"


New Stop Signs Placed-Thornapple & Ninth Streets

In an effort to reduce the chances of pedestrian and vehicle accidents, the police department has made numerous changes in the way of traffic signs at Thornapple and Ninth Streets. This area is heavily congested with vehicles, young students and parents during school hours at Eddy Elementary School. A large majority of the traffic is pedestrian in nature. The intersection at this location has been converted to a 4 way stop from a two way stop. Our goal is to reduce the speed and allow for safer flows of vehicle traffic. This area is also a major target area of our application for SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL grant. Please make every effort to drive safely in this area particularly during school hours.


CHIEF OF POLICE PREPARING FOR NEW TV PROGRAM

Chief of Police Donald Barnum has begun preparation for a new cable television show entitled "For a Safer St. Clair." The program will air once a month for 30 minutes and include guests from various branches of the criminal justice system. Also included will be upcoming events involving the police department, crime prevention tips, and general topics and information the public can use to make their lives safer. SESQUICENTENNIAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The city of St. Clair is preparing for their 150th celebration. Volunteers are needed to fill many positions and to assist with the events. If you are interested in participating you can contact the Executive Committee at stclair150@glis.net. NEW BLIGHT ORDINANCE INFORMATION PAMPHLETS

The office of Code Enforcement has released two new brochures outlining specific code violations, the duties of the Code Enforcement officer, how one can report violations, and how the code enforcement process works through to the adjudication process. Ask for either brochure at city hall or the police department.You may download the brochures at www.stclairpolice.org from the FORMS link. ECUMENICAL FOOD PANTRY

The Ecumenical Food Pantry continues to provide free food to those who may need assistance, are homeless or have very little or no income. Situated in St. Mary's Community Center (8th and Orchard Streets) people may request food be donated to them and their family. Thousands of pounds of food are received each year as donations but the supply at times cannot meet the demand. All recipients remain anonymous. If you wish to donate non-perishable food, paper products or hygiene products, you can contact the Pantry at 329-2255.


KIDS IN DISTRESS' NEW WEBSITE

Kids in Distress Services (KIDS) KIDS is a non-profit agency that provides clothing and various sundries to children and young teens when a crisis occurs in their life. Be it a house fire, poverty, or other family emergency, KIDS works hard to provide these children with clothing and other necessities at no cost to the recipients. Thousands of needy children will be without if KIDS were to close their doors for good. KIDS always accepts monetary donations to help keep their door open for needy children. Our department and all county police agencies make referrals to KIDS when an officer comes across the need to provide children with clothing and the necessities to get through their day.If you wish to make a donation, contact Jane Robinson at 810-326-4505. WANTED - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE-INTERFERING WITH ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

TIMOTHY PHILLIP GIRKEN has been ARRESTED. GIRKEN voluntarily turned himself in on November 29th.

We encourage you to come back often for community notices, crime information, wanted individuals, and other information our residents can utilize to "remain in touch" with any police department and civic activities.


SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT

The police department and city administration in conjunction with Eddy and Gearing Elementary, St. Mary's Parochial School and St. Clair Middle School, are working hard to obtain a grant through the state of Michigan to obtain monies for providing safer walking and biking paths for students in St. Clair. The state of Michigan has obtained 16 million dollars in grants for this project. We will keep you updated on our progress as we finalize our plans.
